Item Description

A RARE, rich, old-time, two-sided combination rib from this old Cumbria iron mine. Mineral specimens are rare from here, one of the first large scale Cumbria iron mines worked from about 1840 and closed at the end of 1931 (MINDAT). Sparkly, brassy pyrite microcrystals are festooned on the two-sided plate covered with glassy, translucent, calcite scalenohedrons. The underlying matrix is banded hematite kidney ore. A fascinating, rare, old-time combination calcite from an East Coast collection. Faint pink calcite fluorescence. It comes with a torn, faded old label, certainly over 100 years old.
