Item Description

An outstanding, aesthetic and rare example of a classic and highly desirable old German mineral. Galena has completely replaced the the dense intergrown cluster of hexagonal pyromorphite crystals. This fine rarity also features a RARE and striking SECONDARY overgrowth of green pyromorphite on the pseudos. It is remarkably aesthetic, colorful and displays nicely, showing off 3-dimensional display faces. The sharp, metallic-gray, hexagonal barrels have sparkly to moderate luster. Pristine. The attachment point is out-of-sight in the many fine display views. Specimens of this quality are at least 100 years old and probably date to the 1840s to 1880s. The old label with this piece is incorrect. This piece is from the Kautenbach Mine, famed for such pseudos. Not the nearby and renowned Friedrichssegen Mine at Bad Ems. From an East Coast collection. Valued at $1000
