Item Description

A stunning, absolutely gem pair of rich purple interpenetrating fluorite cubes dominates this rich and classic plate from this well-known Alston Moor lead mine, that closed in 1948. The limpid, super glassy crystals are 2.9 cm across on the diagonal and are aesthetically surrounded by smaller pairs with a lighter purple hue. These crystals are equal to any for clarity and color saturation from the famous mines at Weardale, County Durham. High praise, indeed. The noted periphery wear has negligible impact to the very high quality of this piece. BRIGHT fluoescence under any lighting! Ex Henry D. Miller and an East Coast collection. Superb and rare fluorite from the Rotherhope Fell Mine. MUCH, MUCH BETTER IN PERSON. The limpid clarity, high luster and rich color saturation made photography difficult. Valued at $1250-1500 and well worth it.
