Item Description

An outstanding, colorful, gemmy, bi-colored tourmaline from this famous pegmatite area of Minas Gerais. The striking complex pyramidal termination faces are lustrous, matte-black. A fabulous, GEM, 1.7 cm, apple-green section follows. The body is actually watermelon, as layered, translucent/gemmy pretty rich pink has a thin green rind. The well-striated, very glassy crystal is pristine. It GLOWS, when backlit! This older crystal, from the 1970s or early 80s has a super provenance. Originally in the collection of well-known Midland, Texas oilman and collector Perkins Sams (sold in 1985, the core of his collection today is the keystone of the Houston Museum collection while extras were sold off at the time) and comes with his rare Provenance Minerals label. Later in the Pala International Company Collection and was long on the display at the Fallbrook store. A superb and RARE unusual style tourmaline from Aracuai. Valued at $4000-5000
