Item Description

Well-formed aquamarine crystals are RARE from this noted Namibia locale, famed for world-class topaz specimens. A sharp, 2.8 cm, gemmy, lustrous, pretty blue crystal is aesthetically set on the elongated matrix dramatically accented by a 3.7 cm, gemmy, glassy, compound smoky quartz crystal with riveting iron oxide inclusions at the base. The undulating matrix is richly peppered with smaller smokies, adding much character. The aqua has an embedded quartz on one end. The striking large quartz is pristine, with only a small acceptable contact at the termination. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 4007 and acquired in an American Museum parcel in 1964 or 65. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). A RARE and very showy combination from the well-known locale.
