Description:The famous pegmatites at Virgem da Lapa produced a striking NEW find of tourmalines around Christmas, 2009 and this is an outstanding example. The body of the gemmy and lustrous, flattened crystal is a pleasing combination of teal-blue and bottle-green. BUT, the unique feature of this beauty is the alternating, chevron-shaped, bands of color. The termination is super dark green. One edge of the tourmaline is razor-sharp and one side has the negative impression (contact) of where another tourmaline once was so it seems a thin-sliced crystal (which also enhances transparency!). Complete all-around and nearly pristine despite the admitted asymmetry on the edge from contact (and a few very minor dings otherwise). A stunning and very unusual new find of a unique style even from Brazil with its tourmaline riches. 18 grams. Valued at $1000.
