Description:A superb, old-time, mimetite variety campylite specimen from the historic Dry Gill Mine of Cumbria. Lustrous, olive-green, curved barrel-shaped mimetite prisms (campylite) richly and thickly cover the undulating matrix of milky quartz. The coverage is about the most i have seen on one specimen! A bit of bruising is noted on lower part of the specimen, but is a very modest detraction for such an important old-timer in this size range (few large pieces turn up on the market). Dry Gill was active as an ore producer from 1830-1869. Fine pieces were recovered in recent times, but this is definitely a 19th century piece. Ex Robert Whitmore Collection. Valued at $1500.
