Description:This rare CABINET matrix specimen is from the most famous, and possibly the oldest underground salt mine in the world - the Wieliczka Mine, Poland. It features a sculptural cluster of intergrown, yet separate, almost transparent cubes of halite measuring up to 3.2 cm across. The crystals are colorless and they have a satiny/lightly frosted finish. It is truly classic for the locality, and very visually impressive as well. Most of us don''t think of salt as a collectible mineral, but when it is this good, it really is such a thing. Ex Dave Stoudt Collection. Dave lived and worked in Poland and according to his catalogue, he bought this piece in Krakow in June, 1998. Although often dismissed as not worthy of "fine mineral collections" , pieces like this show you why a good halite specimen can indeed hold its own. This is a very fine piece, of high quality
