Description:Gilpin County was the site of the first Gold rush in Colorado in the 1860's, and despite being known for its Gold and sulfide specimens, the area produced some well known specimen of the Uranium oxide Uraninite. This specimen is a good representative piece of this well known material which was once part of the Hal Miller and Rich Kosnar Collections. According to Hal Miller's label that accompanies the piece, the specimen was mined in 1896 ! A great antique specimen from this historic mining district in Colorado !
