Description:Here we have a rare blue Prehnite specimen from the famous Prospect Park Quarry in New Jersey. It hosts several botryoidal aggregates with good translucency/gemminess on basalt matrix. Now some of the "balls" are green like most from this historic quarry, but a few of them show a rare seen blue hue which is caused by underlying dark Pumpellyite, which when mixed with the green of the Prehnite, creates a very attractive steel blue color. As you can see in one of the closeup photos, some of the Prehnite spheres have small "clamshell"-shaped overgrowths on the sides which make for a "halo" effect, or something similar to the rings of Saturn. These specimens are highly prized by New Jersey collectors, and are virtually impossible to obtain these days. Enjoy.
