Description:The famous locality at Elk Creek has produced some of the most distinctive and eye-catching Barite specimens in the world. The locality only produces a handful of species, which formed in concretions in shale. This piece features a beautiful, honey-gold color, sharp, GEM/gemmy, doubly-terminated crystal of Barite which is aesthetically perched on light yellow Calcite matrix. I have seen hundreds of these specimens, and it is difficult to find doubly-terminated crystals like this one on matrix ! A great full-sized thumbnail specimen of this well known material.
