Description:The Siglo XX mine is probably best known for it's phosphate species, but there are some very attractive Pyrite specimens that come out from time to time. This piece is a rather aesthetic display specimen featuring several relatively sharp, rather lustrous, modified octahedral crystals of Pyrite on matrix. The largest Pyrite octahedron measures 4.6 cm across. The specimen is in good shape, and it is only one of a handful that I acquired when these pieces came out. The most important aspect of the specimen is the fact that the crystals are on matrix, which is not common in my experience with this material. The majority of the pieces from the most recent find had such terrible damage that they wouldn't even be worth the cost of shipping to bring them back to the States. Certainly a worthwhile specimen for a Pyrite collector or a specimen to add to a Bolivian or sulfide suite.
