Description:A unique and RARELY seen specimen of Fe-bearing, tan color, Kutnohorite which have completely replaced scalenohedral crystals of Calcite leaving amazingly sharp, well-formed and distinct "casts". The matrix is a mound of white crystallized Quartz, giving the piece an attractive two-tone appearance. The specimen comes from the famous Colorado collection of Richard A. Kosnar, and his hand-painted catalogue number is painted on the base of the piece. The specimen comes with a Kosnar collection label as well, which states that the piece was collected in 1969 by "Max" in reference to Max Gallegos, who has a miner that worked in the Sunnyside mine. The piece is certainly one of the VERY few specimens of this unique material that I have seen, and is quite possibly the best representation that I know of. A superb and rare piece that would make a great addition to a Colorado suite, or even a collection of "cast"/epimorph specimens. Valued at $750 for the quality, scarcity and uniqueness of the material.
