Description:Most people don't know how fine the numerous Zeolites and associated species from the various quarries in the Watchung Moutains actually are. The Braen's Quarry was for many years a seldom collected locality, but recently some daring individuals made their way into the quarry to collect some very attractive specimens. This piece features an unusual almost "scepter-like" habit Calcite crystal of a pale peach color (measuring 4.3 cm long) which is surrounded by some very distinct, classic, well-formed, blocky, hollow "casts" of Quartz after Anhydrite with minor Hematite on matrix. The The specimen has a few "rubs" on the display side, but is a good sized and attractive display specimen. Lastly, it should be noted that this quarry is one of the very few extensive exposures of the Preakness Basalt in New Jersey.
