Item Description

These specimens are virtually impossible to find on the market, and I don't think we've actually had one to offer in the auctions prior to this piece. The famous old locality at Woolley Farm, Bovey Tracey in Devon, England produced classic crystals of Schorl dating back 200 years (circa 1817), but the Apatite specimens from this locality are INCREDIBLY hard to obtain. This piece is a wonderful matrix example of Apatite from Woolley Farm featuring sharp, lustrous, prismatic, hexagonal crystals of a pale silvery-green hue measuring up to 1.5 cm on matrix. The crystals are in very good condition considering the age of the specimen, and how many hands it's passed through over the centuries. I don't see any Schorl on the specimen, but the Apatites are well-arranged on the center of the matrix, creating a desirable and rare display specimen. The piece comes with a very old hand-written label from an unknown collection, plus a second typed label with no attribution. It's very difficult to ascertain the value of such a RARE and OLD piece of this highly sought after material, but these do not come along every day, so don't miss out on this opportunity to obtain a piece of English mineral history.
