Item Description

A RARE, impressive and sculptural large topaz crystal from an unknown locality in Teller County. The textbook, well-formed lustrous, gemmy/translucent crystal has blue-gray color and a classic sharp chisel termination. The inclusions in the termination look like cirrus clouds, adding character! Complete all-around and pristine. The undamaged contact on the back has embedded amazonite, indicating the piece is definitely from the Pikes Peak area. MINDAT lists three Teller County topaz localities, with no photographs shown. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 3371 and acquired from prominent East Coast dealer John Albanese in the mid-1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). 135 grams mass. A VERY RARE and highly desirable Colorado topaz. Valued at $700-1000 for quality and rarity.
