Item Description

Fluorite and rhodochrosite are rare to uncommon species from this well-known extinct district, that includes the famous Black Pine Mine, source of some of the world's finest Veszelyite specimens. Finding both species on the same piece is VERY RARE. Lustrous, drusy, pastel-pink rhodochrosite rhombs cover all faces of the sculptural boxwork front the piece. Tiny purple to violet fluorite cuboctahedrons, to 3 mm, are scattered on two faces of this vuggy specimen, adding pizzazz. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 3008 and acquired from Colorado collector and dealer Heinz Eckert of Eckert Mineral Research at the San Jose Show in 1963. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). Rare and excellent older combination material from 1940s to 60s finds here. A MUST for the species or locality collector.
