Fossil Brain Coral

Item Description

This is a good sized polished specimen of fossil "brain" coral colony from a locality called Assa Zag. I'm told that the genus of the species is Hexagonaria which would date it back to 350-400 mya in the Devonian age. The excellent polish allows for the beautiful, inner structure of the coral colony to be seen. These pieces are the same genus as the famous Petoskey Stones, which is the state stone of Michigan.
