Item Description

A rare and classic example of the famous pseudomorphs of Bayldonite after Mimtite from Tsumeb. This mine is obviously one of the most prolific localities in the history of mineral collecting, and is well known for it's excellent and unusual pseudomorphs. This three-dimensional miniature display specimen features dark moss green groups of the rare lead copper arsenate, Bayldonite which have formed pseudomoprhs after hexagonal prismatic Mimetite. For the most part, the piece is in great shape with little damage. The largest crystal measures 1.4 cm long. This phenomenon is RARE from Tsumeb, and these specimens are highly sought after by collectors. I'm told these pieces came out of the 1st oxidation zone. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#4543). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). A beautiful and attractive specimen from this world-famous locale.
