Item Description

Here we have a classic specimen from the famous Old Yuma Mine just outside of Tucson. This locality is best known for its fine quality Vanadinites, arguably the best from any locality in the Western Hemisphere (along with the Pure Potential Mine). While Moroccan Vanadinites will be the standard for the species, the best crystals from the Old Yuma are just as fine in my mind. This piece is a lovely specimen from the Old Yuma featuring sharp, tabular, orange-red colored, lustrous hexagonal crystals of Vanadinite measuring up to 6 mm across on matrix. The piece comes from the collection of George Godas who personally collected the specimen in 1975, and was actually pictured in the Mineralogical Record's Arizona IV issue (Vol. 14, No. 2)! Labels from Dick Morris and Mark Hay (Arizona Minerals) along with a specimen label from the Mineralogical Record that states the piece was pictured in the issue accompany the piece! PLEASE NOTE: The picture of the specimen shows a close up of some of the crystals, and unfortunately a few of them have broken off since the photo was taken, so it doesn't match 100% with what's pictured, but it is for certain the same piece. A wonderfully historic and significant specimen from this classic locale in Arizona.
