Item Description

Domeykite is a rare copper arsenide that is typically always found in massive / uncrystallized examples, mostly notably from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This two piece set features good examples of Domeykite as the larger of the two pieces is a fairly sharp, oxidized crystal section, and the smaller specimen shows even better crystallized form. Now these are not textbook crystals, but I've never really seen an exemplary crystallized example of the species, but they are both much better than average, and certainly worth picking up if you collect rare minerals, Michigan minerals, or species with unusual chemistry. This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The pieces comes with one of Wulff's famous 3x5 index card labels that states the specimen is from Maybee, Michigan, but I can't find a report of Domeykite from Maybee. A wonderfully historic and eye-catching set of this well known material from at least a 30-40 years ago.
