Item Description

From this iron mining area in southern central Ontario here we have a lovely miniature specimen featuring shimmering golden brown "needle"-like crystals of Goethite arranged into semi-radial groups on Calcite matrix. The piece looks beautiful up close and really shines in the light. These are not common, and even though Goethite is not a species that a lot of people consider collecting, this one is quite attractive and worthwhile. It should be noted that this mineral was named after the famous German philosopher Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, and the correct pronunciation of the species is GER-tite (with a hard "g" like gold). Don't miss out on this hard to find Canadian beauty.
