Item Description

This is a nice display specimen from one of the most storied and well known districts in Colorado. The pegmatites near the Lake George area of Colorado have produced what most collectors and dealers consider to be the finest Amazonite specimens from the standpoint of superb color, top quality, wonderful display specimens and excellent associations. This particular specimen has no Amazonite, but features a very good sized, sharp, well-formed, purplish colored cubic crystal group of Fluorite free of matrix. Like most of these Fluorites, the color looks best in sunlight. As I mentioned, there is no matrix, so it's Fluorite all the way around. There are some areas of interrupted / incomplete growth, but not what I would call damage, more than likely these were areas where the Fluorite grew against preexisting Feldspar that later dissolved away. I can see one side that is cleaved, but it's on the back. A nice example of this classic material from Colorado. This specimen was in the collection of Brian Kosnar.
