Item Description

A classic, sharp, lustrous, gemmy euhedral, prismatic crystal of Apatite with the well known greenish yellow color from Cerro de Mercado. These crystals are not nearly as common on the market as they were about 20 years ago, and are certainly some of the most distinctive crystals of Apatite from any locality in the world. The crystal has good size, form and color, and would make a worthwhile addition to a gem crystal suite, a collection of Mexican minerals, or a suite of Apatites. Overall, a good quality specimen of this renowned Mexican material, with only a few small nicks here and there. This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The piece comes with a typed label from Wulff on one of his famous 3x5 index cards.
