Item Description

A classic Bixbyite old time specimen from the famous Thomas Range in Utah. Aside from Red Beryl, this is the most sought after and recognizable mineral from the area. A large group of sharp, lustrous, semi-metallic black cubic crystals of Bixbyite are intergrown to create a lovely cluster aesthetically perched atop matrix. The largest individual Bixbyite measures 3 mm on edge, but the entire group of crystals measures 1.7 cm across. This rare iron manganese oxide is not seen is fine crystallized specimens very often these days, and these are among the most classic of species from the western United States. From an old East Coast collection, and valued at $750.
