Item Description

A classic old time specimen of Spinel in Calcite from the well-known locality at Amity. Actually there is no specific locality at Amity, but rather nearby. Sharp, well-formed, deep purplish colored octahedra of Spinel measuring up to 3 mm. This area has been producing specimens since the early 1800s, and good pieces are hard to find on the market today. Interestingly enough, this area is actually part of the famous Franklin Marble Belt, more commonly associated with New Jersey.
