Item Description

A wonderful, showy old-time display specimen that dates back to the 1800s from this historic mining district in England. The piece features beautiful silvery-grey metallic Hematite which is epitaxially overgrowying creamed colored rhombic Dolomite on matrix. The Dolomite extends out of the specimen in flat "finger"-like protrusions creating a very three-dimensional specimen. Hard to find and really eye-catching! Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#11480), but accompanied by THREE old labels: One from the collection of Julius Bohm of Vienna, another from A. Berger of Vienna, and a third hand-written label with no collection attributed. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). A beautiful and attractive old-timer from this famous district.
