Item Description

A wonderful old specimen of Crococite from this lesser known locality in Tasmania. The Platt Mine didn't produce the world class Crocoites as the Red Lead Mine in terms of size, but these crystals are just as fine in terms of quality. The crystals have an electric reddish-orange color with fine luster and are sitting on oxidized matrix. The largest crystal measures about 4 mm long. This is clearly older material, dating back around the 1970s I would say and is a good micro example of the species. From the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ).
