Item Description

One of the classic Quartz-lined geodes from Las Choyas, Mexico featuring crystallized lilac Amethyst with very thin, bladed, gemmy to transcluent, white to colorless crystals of Calcite beautifully set inside. The Calcites measure up to 5.3 cm and fluoresce beautifully under UV light. It's not common to find Calcites like this inside these geodes, and this piece is one of the best examples of this particular association that I've seen from the locality. The piece comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ).
