Item Description

Broken Hill is one of the world's most significant mineral localities, where over 300 mineral species are found. This specimen is a good overall example of a Broken Hill Bustamite, which is highlighted by a fine quality 8 mm, fairly sharp, notably GEMMY, rich pink color crystal that is sitting on larger, more translucent Bustamite crystal matrix. The gemmy crystal is doubly-terminated and pristine. Very attractive up close! This is old, probably mined prior to the 1950s, I am told. Valued at $1000. From the worldwide collection of famed Italian mineral collector, field collector and author, Francesco Bedogne of Sondrio, Italy (Collection #689). Bedogne wrote dozens of articles and several books about the mineralogy of Italian Alpine localities such as Val Bregaglia, Val Masino, Val Codera, Val Spluga, Valtellina and the famous Val Malenco. He was also the founder of the Valtellinese Mineralogical Institute.
