Item Description

Most people are familiar with the classic brown Pyromorphites from the Bad Ems District, but the GREEN specimens are highly coveted by collectors. These specimens are few and far between and certainly worth buying if you collect secondary ore minerals, worldwide Pyromorphites or old German classics. This specimen is loaded with hundreds of sharp, lustrous, thin prismatic hexagonal yellow-green crystals of Pyromorphite of a mound of matrix. The crystals measure up to about 6mm, but the habit is unusual compared to other green pieces I've seen from Bad Ems as these are slender, and not the stout equant crystals that we're used to seeing from the locality. Rare material to be sure, and certainly old. Virtually impossible to find on the market these days. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#5530). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017). Valued at $1200.
