Item Description

A rarely seen BLUE Sapphire specimen from Mogok that dates back several decades. Typically the Corundum crystals from this area are Rubies or at least pink Sapphires, but blue crystals are exceedingly difficutl to find. This attractive thumbnail display piece features flattened / compressed hexagonal crystals of Sapphire free of matrix. The crystals show good luster and smooth faces on the front and back of the piece, but it's not complete all the way around. A great old time specimen to add to a Burmese suite or a collection of Corundum crystals. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#800). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017).
