Item Description

Miedzianka was formerly part of Germany where it was called Kupferberg in Silesia. Today it sits in Poland and is best known for its micro secondary ore minerals and attractive Magnetite crystals. Most of the Magnetites I've seen from this locality are dull and rounded, but THIS piece actually displays some notably fine quality, very sharp, lustrous, rich jet black colored Magnetites with a less common dodecahedral habit. Magnetite is typically seen in cubic or octahedral form, so dodecs are certainly rare. The crystals measure up to 7 mm and are sitting in an unknown white amphibole on matrix. A very worthwhile specimen of this rare and classic material that dates back many decades. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#2334). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017).
