Item Description

From a discovery in north eastern New Mexico, here we have a piece / slice of the famous La Lande Meteorite. According to the information I've been able to piece together, this piece came from a 77 pound stone that was discovered in 1933 near the La Lande post office. It was originally thought to be from the same fall as the Melrose Meteorite The exterior was weathered and oxidzed, but the interior showed is was a chondrite composed of olivine and enstatite with a bit of nickel-iron and hematite. The photocopied label accompanying the piece states that it came from the man who made the discovery (Mr. H. H. Nininger), who also states that the piece is not from the Melrose fall (even though the other side of the label states it was from Melrose originally). A really cool old time documented meteorite from a discovery over 80 years ago! Weight = 27 grams. From the collection of Senator / Dr. Miguel Romero of Teuhuacan, Mexico. For more information on this important collection, use the link to this free online copy of our 2008 book on his collection: http://www.irocks.com/e-book-romero/
