Item Description

Here we have a nice Prehnite specimen from the famous Prospect Park Quarry in New Jersey. It hosts aggregates of soft green Prehinte which have formed "finger"-shaped "casts" / perimorphs after Anhydrite which was dissovled away, leaving hollow cavities replaced by Prehnite. The piece has a dusting of white "needles" of Laumontite. These specimens are highly prized by New Jersey collectors, and are becoming very difficult to obtain these days, especially since the quarry is now closed and will never produce this material again. Please note that the piece was incorrectly labeled as coming from "Paterson", which was a common mistake for minerals found in Prospect Park, as it's literally right next to Paterson, but not part of the same borough. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#1247). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017).
