Item Description

A VERY RARE form of agate pseudomorphs after large aragonite crystals from an unknown Chihuahua locale. Lustrous, translucent, lavender-gray agate with yellow oxide tinting has replaced an impressive, sculptural, stepped-growth, penetration-twinned pair of pseudo-hexgonal aragonite crystals. The large pseudo is well-terminated. Complete all-around with some contacting noted on the sides, which is certainly only a modest detraction. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 7495 and acquired from the Rexford L. Vent Collection. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). The MINDAT photo gallery for Chihuahua aragonite has nothing that remotely resembles this remarkable pseudomorph rarity. A possibly UNIQUE Chihuahua rarity and a MUST for the pseudomorph, species or locality collector.
