Item Description

In the 1980s, the famous locality of Volodarsk-Volynskii in Ukraine produced some of the most iconic and beautiful crystals of gem grade Heliodor in the world. The classic greenish-yellow color combined with the gorgeous etching patterns on the LARGE, GEM quality crystals made them incredibly desirable. Interestingly, a small amount of blue Aquamarine crystals were actually found, but they are considered rare in comparison to the large amout of Heliodors recovered. This piece shows a gorgeous blue hue with excellent internal gemminess and the graceful geometric etching patterns on the prism faces. Neither termination seems to be complete, but this piece is more about the oddity and rarity for the locality. For the great form and clarity it is certainly an attractive gem crystal of this classic material. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#11185). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017).
