Item Description

A lovely small cabinet specimen of the classic, well known vivid blue-green octahedral Fluorites from the Berta Quarry. This material is not your typical Spanish Fluorite as the color and habit are not what one would expect since so many Spanish Fluorites (mostly from Asturias) are blue or purple and typically cubic in habit. For the size (the largest crystal is 1.0 cm), the color is really INTENSE, as you don't often see Fluorites this size with such a strong hue. The label states that the Fluorites are associated with Quartz pseudomorphs after Barite, but since Barite is very difficult to dissolve, my guess is that the Quartz might have replaced something like Anhydrite(?). Good quality overall, and hard to find on the market now. Don't miss out if you're a Fluorite collector! Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#11427). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017).
