Item Description

This variety of Andradite is rarely seen from the Hess quarry in Bavaria, but they are certainly sought after by Garnet collectors and collectors of European minerals. This piece hosts sharp, well-formed, lustrous, translucent, greenish to golden colored crystals of dodecahedral Topazolite measuring up to 3 mm on matrix. Attractive up close, and certainly worth picking up for the locality alone. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#3157) with an old label actually attache to the base of the piece. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). A strange and unusual reference specimen of this hard to find material from Germany.
