Item Description

This locality is well known for its copper minerals, but it's not easy to find Azurite / Malachite specimens on the market. This piece features Malachite that has almost completely pseudomorphed the underlying preexisting Azurite, but a few spots of rich almost "metallic"-looking midnight blue Azurite are poking through among the surrounding Calcite and Barite(?). Good quality and beautiful all around. If you collect Mexican minerals or secondary ore minerals, don't miss out on this attractive and hard to find piece from this classic locality. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#7753). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
