Item Description

Chiavennite is a very rare calcium manganese beryllium silicate that is only found in Italy, Mexico, Norway, Sweden and Madagascar. This piece was originally labeled as coming from a locality called "Mahaila" in Madagascar, but I can't find a listing for that locality. The only confirmed locality for the species in Madagascar that I can find is the Sakavalana Mine, so please keep that in mind. Small sparkling orange Chiavennite crystals can be seen all over the display side of this specimen. A somewhat blocky light pink color crystal of what I believe to be Pezzottaite (for which the Sakavalana mine is the type locality) can be seen on the edge. Very rare material and certainly worth picking up if you collect minerals of Madagascar. Originally from Dr. Federico Pezzotta.
