Item Description

Fine quality tetrahedrite specimens are RARE from the historic mines at St. Andreasberg. Sharp, lustrous, metallic-gray textbook tetrahedral crystals, to 9 mm, richly and aesthetically cover the top of the sculptural matrix on this exceptional old-timer. The cluster of multiple stacks of wafer-thin, hexagonal calcite pokerchips (modest pink fluoresence) below the tetrahedrites and crust of drusy quartz on the right sides are classic and typical accessories to this very fine old-time combination rarity from the Kay Robertson Collection # 5568 and acquired from the American Museum in New York in the mid-1960s. Kay assembled a nice suite of classics and rarities from this famed district. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). See the Mineralogical Record St. Andreasberg Special Issue, May-June, 2017, Vol. 48, No. 3.
