Item Description

Classic and showy old-time miniature Russian topaz dating to Imperial Russia, prior to World War I. The intergrown crystals are gemmy to translucent and have light ice-blue color. Prism faces are very glassy, while the textbook chisel terminations on the striking large crystal are frosted. Interesting chemistry here. The very fine frontal display view is pristine, with some contacting and bruising on the back being out-of-sight. This is an excellent, highly representative, old-time example of topaz from this famous locale with classic form. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 7425 and acquired from the Lidstrom's at the 1974 MSSC Show. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). 39 grams mass.
