Item Description

Uvarovite is the rare green chrome-rich end member of the Grossular-Uvarovite Garnet Group Series. It is very uncommon from this obscure former mining boom town located along the Tuolumne River, now completely inundated beneath the Don Pedro Reservoir (MINDAT). This is a UNIQUE old-time specimen of lustrous, bright emerald-geen uvarovite on a slickensided matrix surface from a fault zone. The back side has typical sparkly, gemmy microcrystalline uvarovite crystals. RARE style California uvarovite from the Kay Robertson Collection # 5101 and acquired in the mid-1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
