Item Description

A classic and sculptural old-time azurite with malachite miniature from this historic locale - the Type Locality for azurite. The elongated rosette is composed of tightly intergrown navy-blue azurite blades with pretty flashes of electric-blue color under bright light. The scattered patches of green malachite are a fine contrast and add color. A complete all-around and pristine two-sided piece. The out-of-sight attachment is at the base. The ancient copper mines at Chessy closed by 1875. Ex Kay Robertson Collection, without a collection number. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). It comes with a 1970s Lidstrom's label with a $200 price. Valued today at $400-600. Classic and excellent old azurite from Chessy.
