Item Description

This ancient gold mining area has universially produced the world's finest examples of hessite, a rare silver telluride. Specimens from here are usually 100-200 years old and more! This rich, classic and showy thumbnail features intergrown, lustrous to nubby, pseudocubic crystals beautifully accented with upright quartz crystals. Pristine, aesthetic examples are few and far between in any size and are very highly desirable. Nicely displayable as a good reference specimen of this very rare silver telluride species. Ex Kay Robertson Collection, with no catalogue number. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). Valued over $1000, as any good hessite should be!
