Item Description

A surreal, dramatic and rare large specimen from this ancient area, that was likely worked for salt as long as 2000 years ago (MINDAT). The Camp Verde Mine, a salt-clay-gypsum mine, was active in the 1920s and 30s. Many fine and unusual specimens have been collected since then and this is certainly one of them. This is a striking pristine stalactite of knobby thenardite, Na-sulfate and halite, NaCl. It has a very interesting hollow metallic sound, went tapped with a fingernail! We were told by an Arizona expert, that these were recovered in the early 1990s. RARE material in this size and quality! Value?? It seems unque in my experience.
