Item Description

Mineral specimens are uncommon from this old mining district discovered in 1887 and closed since 2001. This is a sculptural, bent doubly terminated stibnite crystal with splendent steel-gray luster and striking parallel-growth faces. The Hillgrove area is famous for its bent, deformed stibnite crystals, not unlike what you see from Japan. This is an excellent, highly representative piece for the locality from the Kay Robertson Collection # 12018. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
