Item Description

An old-time magnetite lodestone from famous Magnet Cove, a old source for the USA. The massive magnetite has beautiful variable iron-oxide tinting (relatively beautiful, anyhow!). Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 101. Kay purchaed this piece in 1942 from Chuckawalla Slim, aka the "desert rat", Edwin Vose, a very colorful character who sold minerals in California and Arizona from about 1925 to 1960. Read his biography in the Mineralogical Record Biographical Archive: http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=840. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
