Item Description

An old-time, important morganite crystal from Hiriart Mountain, home of famous pegmatite mines such as the White Queen and Vanderberg. The textbook, hexagonal crystal is complete all-around and pristine. The translucent, layered, pastel-pink crystal has frosted, etched and embedded prism faces. The upper 3-4 mm of the glassy termination is quite gemmy. This is a RARE, old-time style from here and may be from the Vanderberg Mine. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 2816 and acquired from Sol Shale, sometime in the early 1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). 27 grams mass. Better in person. Classic, rare and desirable California morganite.
